First Filipino to Win Strategic Communication Leader of the Year

The Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) proudly celebrates a historic milestone as its current President for 2026–2027, Ana Ruby Pista, APR, was named Strategic Communication Leader of the Year at the inaugural Strategic Global Awards 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.

Presented by the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence (CSCE) on April 16, the award recognizes communication leaders whose work demonstrates measurable impact, sustained strategic leadership, and meaningful contributions to the profession on both organizational and societal levels.

For PRSP, the recognition is not only a personal achievement for Pista, but also a proud moment for the Philippine communications industry.

Nearly three decades ago, Pista entered an evolving communications landscape and identified a gap few had yet recognized. Technology companies were rapidly growing, yet no local agency specialized in serving the communications needs of the tech sector. With only a ₱7,000 investment and a bold vision, she founded Ardent Communications (ArdentComm) in 1997.

What began as a niche tech-focused agency has since evolved into one of the Philippines’ leading integrated communications firms, serving brands such as Airbnb, Toyota, Disney, Chevron, and Alibaba Cloud, while growing into an organization of more than 50 professionals.

Yet beyond building an agency, Pista continuously invested in advancing the profession itself.

She became the first Filipino elected as a director of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, the international confederation representing over 360,000 practitioners worldwide. She has served multiple terms on the PRSP Board and now leads the organization under its 2026–2027 theme, “Steward the Story.”

Alongside ArdentComm, she also co-founded the AI Centre of Excellence (ACE) to help communicators navigate the rapidly changing AI landscape responsibly and strategically.

According to the judges, Pista exemplified “sustained strategic leadership” and demonstrated the courage to launch forward-looking initiatives that not only addressed present-day industry needs, but also created long-term impact for the future of communications.

Her story reflects a philosophy she often shared early in her career: “We would, and we should be the Davids of the industry.”

For PRSP, that mindset continues to resonate deeply. In an era shaped by disruption, misinformation, and technological change, Pista’s journey reminds communication professionals that leadership is not defined solely by size or scale, but by courage, integrity, and the willingness to uplift others along the way.

PRSP congratulates President Ana Ruby Pista, APR, for this global recognition and proudly stands with her in continuing to steward the story of the communications profession in the Philippines and beyond.
